THE GOLDEN AGE...

My early training was in the study of Old Master methods, particular underpainting in the style of daVinci, Rembrandt and Bouguereau, and I still retain a fondness for value paintings in verdaccio, bruno, and grisaille.  There is freedom in painting without worry about color choices, color harmony and chroma.  With this method, even a complex subject is simplified to a degree.

So, yes, I have been painting from the Golden Age.....the Golden Age of Hollywood, that is.  This era of movie making had it all...great stars, great costumes, scripts, and the sets were to die for! I have always been enamored with stars like Kathryn Hepburn, Ginger Rogers and Olivia deHaviland. And then, there were the leading MEN...what an impressive bunch of actors and actresses... inspiring! Black and white only added to their appeal, particularly with some of the dramatic studio lighting, so the Daily Paintworks Challenge from Tamara Geddes, was a delight for me. I painted FOUR of these 8" X 10" oils on canvas. Browse them all while you are there and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
